5 Gears Not 4?

Hey guys.

So I'm getting to know my 1987 LS650 more and more, day by day... One thing that confuses me is that my bike has 5 - yes FIVE gears. All the online specs I've seen state that the 1987 model is FOUR speed. So I'm wondering which is correct. Im happy to have 5 gears, of course. But is it possible that the engine in my bike has been swapped out for a later model?

Hehehe.... I was showing off my cabbage to a friend of mine last week and they asked me if I had reverse on the thing. I said, "Gee, I never thought about it. Having a bike at 380 lbs, I push it around wherever I want to." Wink

2012 S40 Boulevard (White and Silver) - small changes so far like windshield, sissy bar, saddlebags... but mostly stock.
