Remove belt guard cons?
06/12/16 at 08:51:19
I have been browsing and reading around. There is a ton of good information on this site. But I couldn't find the cons of taking off the belt guard. I like the idea of less weight and the looks of it. but how much more of a risk am I putting the belt for a chance to get messed up. Rocks and what not hitting it? I am not worried about a passenger, already too that seat off.

That guard might be protecting the belt, but it's Sho Nuff protecting you. Anything that gets in the pinch point of the front pulley is mush...

I've had no guard for 30k miles... no problem..
I couldn't get a body part in there while riding if I tried....

While Riding, I agree.
I was laying on the Guzzi as it finished spitting and sputtering, in a ditch. A Savage, unguarded belt, still running and someone laying on it,,, a shirt sleeve get snagged,,
Do whatever, I think they look fine with the guard.
And after working around scary stuff, I like guards on belts and chains.

I carry a passenger allot of the time ,but have small slant bags and have moved pas. peg 6 inches forward (more leg room /less foot peg bounce. I don't like running without the guard but I did cut off the rear just past the bracket that mounts to the lower shock bolt. The curve on the end I thought might just pick up mud ,stones etc. and now I can see if my belt is tracking in the center of the pulley at any time.If you are doing a bobber, just match the angle of the back fender when making the cut .If I were running a chain I'd keep the guard for safety but I don't feel the belt breaking as much of a risk.

I absolutely agree with this! It's there for a reason!

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

I will vote for keeping guards on any kind of machine.
