Strange noise when engine is shutdown
05/30/16 at 19:19:08

Finally fired up my RYCA street tracker. It fired up so fast it scared me for a second. Runs well, still needs alittle jet work. But when I shut it down I hear a click and a winding sound for maybe 1 second,I know it's something to do with the starter drive. Just don't know if it's normal, it been 2 1/2 years since it ran last, don't recall if it made the sound before. So does your savage make this noise ? Or do I have an issue ?

I have a 2014 S40 and it occasionally makes the same noise. I asked about it once on this forum and it's apparently a non-issue. I don't worry about it.

However, smarter people here will perhaps reply differently.

I believe you're hearing the starter torque limiter work.

So normal condition Versy? It runs great, that's the only thing that made me worry. It pulls like a beast, haven't tried to wheelie it yet!

Mine does that too. I'm glad you brought it up. I'll ignore it for the time being then unless it's decided it's serious.

Also I get that POP at shutdown which I think is hysterical.

I truly enjoyed hearing mine growl spit and snarl as I went down through the gears. That last Hurrah when I shut down always made me smile.

Thanks guys , I guess it's normal , wow I really like a big single with a happy button , it's so cool ! So light & nimble, but it has more motor than brakes going to have to work on that !

I thought cutting 60+ lbs off the bike and a braided brake hose and some quality pads would help the brakes, if it did it wasn't by much. Guess the engine mods are overriding the brake mods. Good thing it steers really good. Just about burned my fingerprints off checking the rotor for oil or grease , Ouch !

Does the braided hose really make THAT much difference?

Hold your hose to your front brake and squeeze the brake hard , that expansion of the hose is lost pressure to the caliper a braided hose reduces the expansion from 50 to 80% sending more pressure to caliper. Yes it does help. I think my pads need to wear in a bit !

I'll try that in the morning. I've had to get on the brakes pretty hard before and I was less than impressed.

Steel braided hoses definitely work as Ruttly describes.

On some bikes the fork legs will spread open, front to back, when using the steel braided line.

A lot of the guys that install the braided line will tell you that you should think about installing a fork brace at the same time.

Just saying.

Yes , Superbrace makes one for the savage. I put one on my RYCA ! Bike steers very nice, feels very solid even under hard braking , no wiggles no wobbles . With the shortened forks & Progressive springs it steers much quicker than a stock savage.
