Iran was so angry over the failed rescue mission, another poorly conceived and more poorly executed Carter plan, that Iran wanted to embarrass Carter until the last possible moment.

And, oi forgot what the deal was about the release, someone wanted Reagan to be the great one.. I think the details were ours, and Carter Could have had them home sooner, but clowns on the right would rather see people suffer , keep Carter from looking good, then make Reagan look like a God, because they handed them right over, soon as he is in office..

You are wrong. Iran hated cater for the bungled rescue mission, and kept the hostages until his presidency ended. The minute Reagan was sworn in, the Iranians knew that they had better release them, or face the full wrath of the U.S.
The hostages were originally taken by a riotous gang of Iranian youth who stormed the embassy during the revolutionary zeal. Once the hostages were taken, Iranian gov't forces secured them.

Iran didn't respect Jimmy and were doing everything to make him look like the failure he was. Reagan was an unknown to them, but they knew enough to know they'd better not test him right off the bat.

Hopey-change is Jimmy the 2nd. When he visits a foreign country and the top guy's not there to meet him, speaks volumes.

When I was an officer, and a group commander, all units commanders were ultimately responsible for everything that their unit does, or fails to do. That goes for the CIC as well.
