I had this issue too, and it was the same issue, where the two wiring harnesses connect. Seems to be a common problem with these bikes. Beware, it was super intermittent. Even though I seem to have it fixed, I test my horn every once and a while when no cars are around to make sure it's still all good.

Thank you! Will take a look at the connector while bike is on the bench - I had the same issue last riding season.

Was coming home late at night and all of a sudden, headlight and running light turned off but engine was still running. Shut engine off turned it back on - no results, smacked the switch few times - everything went back to normal. Week later - same thing, headlight and front running lights would turn off while riding. Chalked it off to a bad light switch but sounds like it's more than that Shocked

Shoot contact cleaner in the switch, flick it high and low a while.
Have a rag handy and dry off any paint immediately. A bit of wax first would probably not be stupid.

Good afternoon all.  I am a new member with a 2014 Boulevard S40 that I just purchased.  I apologize for reviving an old thread but I have the same problem as the OP.  Where exactly is this connector located, do I have to remove the gas tank to get to it?  If possible could someone direct me to pictures of the plug and its location.  I really do not want to take it to the dealer if it is a simple fix but it has been years since I worked on a bike and I am lost.

Thanks

The fuses are under the seat on the right side.

The connector is under the gas tank, left side,  in the area above the spark coil ,it's large, holding about 10-11 wires.

Thanks for the help, I found the black plug in question, completely unplugged.  I was able to get it reconnected without removing the tank.  If it happens again, the tank will be pulled and the plugged wire tied.
