Rear wheel direct or minimal modification swaps

Hello All, first thank you for any reply. I have a 2002 Savage LS650P that a friend let sit for several years, after a carb rebuild and bypassing the vacuum on the petcock it's running again. My limitations are: cash, more than 3 days of work in a row, no access to machine shop or any welding gear. So, trying to eliminate complicated modifications. Apologies for the multiple questions and many thanks for your help.
I would like to increase the size of my rear rim, I've read all the threads I found and can't nail down the answers to these questions.
- What is the max size rim that can be swapped without swingarm modification? (I believe its 18" x 2.5" but confirmation would be much appreciated).
- Is there a direct swap mag or one piece rim for an 18" x 2.5" or greater rear wheel and front wheel that doesn't require switching to disc brakes? (I want to keep the drum brake to minimize mods, belt is preferred but not required)
I found a 1979 GS 425 Enkei one-piece rear wheel rim[/url] (18" x 1.85"). Which seems narrow, but it was stock on a 425, any thoughts?
- As far as spoked wheels, has anyone tried using a Suzuki TU250X rear wheel? It looks like it might swap out directly.
If these questions are directly addressed elsewhere please let me know, I found mostly tangential answers in my searches.

and just scroll through the pictures of this MOD, it's NOT a wheel swap, but will give you an idea of the rear belt pulley/hub ... then look on eBay at the Suzuki TU250X rear wheels for sale, notice anything different in the hub setup?
I'm NOT saying you can't MOD the TU250X to work, but given your "limitations" mentioned ... you're gonna need some $$$ or skills or tools or all of this ...

The rim size is not necessarily the controlling factor on what is too big for the bike....the tire size is likely where you will get into problems.
Bikes made in the 60's and 70's had narrower rims than we are used to today, and the tires were narrower as well. The tires that fit on those narrower rims have much taller sidewalls, and they are made to have the tread profile in the proper shape when mounted on the narrow rim. The correct tires for those narrower rims will likely be in sized like 3.00-18, 3.50-18, 4.00-18, etc. Some of these tires can have a very tall sidewall and a large OD.
Modern tires are made to fit onto wider rims, and they should not be mounted onto rims that are narrower than the fitment chart allows. A 2.50-18 rim normally can be fitted with a tire 120/80-18 or smaller, a 3.50-18 rim can be used with a 130/70-18 and it fits the stock swing arm just fine.
Check the OD of the tire you intend to use....somewhere here on the forum or the RYCA website it lists the maximum OD that can be used with the stock swingarm.
