Savage famous backfire issue!
03/29/16 at 10:51:26
Hey guys! So I've got the famous backfire on shut down that I hear so much about. I see a lot of people who seem to like it? XD
Truth be told, it annoys me and I hate how it turns heads in a parking lot. I hear it's easy to fix. What's the best home remedy that I could fix it myself with?

We need some stats:
Stock muffler?
Does the carb have the stock jetting?
Do you know what your idle speed is?
Do you pull off the highway and immediately shut the bike off?

Try just letting the bike idle for a few seconds before shutting off...
All that bang is,.. is the final cycle of fuel blowing in the pipe, after the spark plug was shut off.
Poof!...

I've tried a trick that I read about here. Stop the bike in gear and let the clutch out slowly. The RPMs will wind down slow enough to burn off the excess fuel and not pop.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

I have an aftermarket jardine slip on as a muffler. Not sure about the others. I've been tuning and messing around with my idle for a while now tyring to see if it would fix it.

Can you see the idle mixture screw....or is the brass plug still intact? (There should be the idle speed screw on the left side of the carb, and an idle mixture screw on the right side of the carb.

Jardine is an open muff, you're not going to get rid of it w/out making the idle extremely rich.
And even then it'll still pop.
The problem is hot muff waiting for the right fuel mixture to ignite.
Too rich mixture will allow the muff to cool off before it lights off.
Too lean and it stays hot and just waits for the last gasp to come down the pipe.

I think I've just learned more about muff than I've ever known.
Open muffs, hot muffs, waiting to ignite.. ohh, mercy..
How many times have we all waited for that last gasp to come down the pipe?
Versy, you Had to see what a setup that was.

Yes, I forgot to thank you. My birthday is just before Christmas, so, I didn't get birthday parties. That almost made up for it.
I'll bet you're a real devil with the double entendre.
