Battery problem? Or not?

I think my battery might be dead but im not sure. I put it on the tender and it reads that its charging and above 80% charge. But when I turn the ignition no lights come on at all and it doesn't start. I have checked the fuses and they are fine.

Is it the battery or is it something else? I'm not to good with electrics other than basic car audio.

Take a volt meter and check the voltage on the battery with your headlight (at least switched) on. If it reads really low with the headlight's draw on it, you probably have a bad battery. If the battery is charged up all the way, and actually good, the voltage shouldn't sag drastically.

If it didn't sag at all and your light didn't come on at all, you may have a problem other than your battery.

Can also bring your battery to an auto parts place and get it tested usually for free.

Reply #4 - 03/23/16 at 17:50:28 Unfortunately......battery tenders and modern smart chargers are confused by batteries that are in a low state charge - for some reason they interpret that the same as a charged battery. You really need to check the voltage of the battery and see how many volt it has - both when at rest and when a load is applied.

Reply #5 - 03/23/16 at 18:56:30 Auto Zone will load test a battery for free but I'm not positive they can test a motorcycle battery. The battery should test around 13-14V just sitting with no load. Put a multimeter on it and try to start the bike. It shouldn't drop below about 10V. If it does, get a new one.

Isn't there a "problem" with some aftermarket batteries having the terminals reversed from the normal Savage style? Supposedly they don't fit well or something? Am I makng this up?
