I'm new to this forum and am starting off by airing a few gripes, though I love the bike!

What did they mean by omitting the trip meter? With no fuel gauge I find you really need a trip meter to use in lieu. My solution is to write down the ODOM reading when I fill the tank, keep that in my wallet, and also write it in large print on a chart that hangs on the garage wall right beside where I park the bike.

He gave me a small combination clock, the kind where you turn 3 different little wheels to set the combination. I have that on a bungee cord on my handlebar and just set the last 3 digits of the odometer reading at each fill up. It works great as long as you remember to set it.

really some folks over complicate this
when the odo hits double zeros, refuel
so if you bought your bike with 3852 miles on it, refuel at 3900, then 4000, then 4100, then 4200\
it's easy, you won't forget when you last refueled, and you won't run out (you MIGHT go on reserve now and then)
this assumes you aren't riding mostly 70-75 mph on the freeway, where your mileage may drop into the 40s

No problem riding to reserve when you are near fuel stations. Some of us ride in remote areas where a lot of distance between gas stations is common, and I ride a lot of Sunday afternoons when most of the mom/pop stores are closed on Sundays.

The good news is that my Cafe' conversion has a trip odometer in the speedometer.....and I have a larger fuel tank that can get me 160 miles between stops!

I fitted a $20 Bicycle computer to mine and I reset the trip meter each time I fill up. When I see the trip meter nearing 100 miles I go look for a gas station. I haven't run out of fuel since...

The bicycle computer also provides a digital read out of the speed, and is more accurate than the analog speedo on the bike. Mounting it on the bars means I don't have to look down so much to see my speed as well.
