Tool Cover Rattle!
02/25/16 at 10:23:54

On my recent purchase of a 2004 Savage I found that the tool cover is very loose & rattles when underway. While reading an unrelated post I learned that there is supposed to be a gasket on this cover. Does anyone have a good DIY solution as the local Suzuki dealer is not enthusiastic about ordering parts for bikes over 10 years old. In addition there was no tool kit, so if you were designing your own kit, what tools would you include? (MY previous experience with tool kits supplied by a manufacturer were that they were lacking in functionality for the most part)! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

tell the idiot that the bike is in current production.
better yet, just order on line.
you'll have to wait for delivery anyway.

tool kit is listed in the tech section index...

Hawk,

I searched all over trying to find rubber molding similar to what Suzuki uses and I have been unable to find anything. So I paid through the nose too.

I think that you will find Suzuki parts are among the most expensive of any bike.

Most of the gasket  on my tool box cover was missing when I bought the bike. I folded thin strips of black duct tape over the edges all the way around. Cheap. And it doesn't fall off every time I remove the cover.

A small bead of silicone or RTV will work if you're in a pinch.

I built my own when my stock one died. Just gotta be creative at the corners.

Door seal glue would probably be better. Stop by a body shop and tell a bodyman you need a dab of Gorilla Snot.
