Installing 2" longer shocks.
01/27/16 at 16:21:31
I want to fit 2" longer rear shocks on my s40.
I ran into a problem with the stock muffler because the passenger foot peg mounts hit the muffler. I can cut the foot peg mounts down a bit or maybe bend the muffler mount out a bit to allow more clearance.
Of course I have removed the passenger foot pegs.
Anybody run in to this?
Thanks.

Put a Sporty shorty muffler on it... you won't regret it...

Maybe I'm missing something from your post. You're having trouble fitting the stock muffler around the stock pegs?

I installed 12.5" bikemaster shocks and had to shim the eyes in the shocks. Make sure you order shocks with eyes that match the size of the posts on the bike.
The taller shocks sharpen the steering response nicely. Cheers!

Kris01,
If you put 2" longer shocks on the stock S40 the passenger foot peg lug on the swing arm hits the stock muffler.
Also the chrome belt guard on the left side hits the front drive pulley. It is easy to cut back the belt guard to avoid this.
On the muffler side I didn't want to make any more mods than absolutely necessary. I thought that moving the muffler out, away from the swing arm, might be a way to get this done without cutting the bike.
I also want to keep the bike as close to stock as possible.

I have a pair of Ikon 12.5' shocks that fit perfectly. They are available from New Bonneville .com and are intended for the Triumph Bonneville.
They should be a good mod for the Suzuki. Adjustable damping to boot.

I'm having a hard time visualizing that. I'll have to check my bike when I get home and imagine it having 2" longer shocks!
