I have never seen this mentioned on here.
It is easy to remove the chrome cylinder head covers without taking the tank off.
All I did was take off the two bolts that hold down the tank and put a wooden block under the rear end. There is then plenty of room to remove and replace the covers. The left side is a little tight but no problem. I had already cut the "bridge" off the right cover to clear the engine breather hose.
Sorry if this is redundant and common knowledge.

Hi norm92de.....Thank you. Good information. I have never seen this tip before. I will certainly try it come spring when I get the bike out of hibernation

Myself i never put them back on, I liked the way the engine looked better without them

I personally like the look of the engine without those square chrome cylinder head covers.
Without the covers the engine looks like the old Yamaha SR500 engine which was a good looking engine, clean and simple.
