Ignition Switch Relocation Kit? (Read 182 times)

Does anyone have a kit or ideas for relocating the ignition switch up top somewhere? I hate the thing where I can't see it or find it when I need it. I looked at the wiring schematic and it has only 4 wires...

Reply #4 - 01/12/16 at 06:14:50 Yep, it is only 4 wires, and they can be cut and a length of wire spliced into each wire to allow you to move the switch. Just match the wire size when you splice the wires in. I believe the switch has a drain hole to allow water to drain out....you should orient that so the switch can still drain.

Both my new S40 & my 2002 Vulcan Nomad have switch in awkward spot...under butt on S40, under left front of huge gas tank on the 'Nad (reminds me of the 60s-70s Hondas...& not in a good way).

The only advantage to this placement that I can see is that ignition wires aren't being flexed with every turn of the handlebars. Thinking about moving S40 ignition switch forward, about where seat meets tank.

Reply #7 - 01/13/16 at 08:16:04 Most every bike I ever owned had the key on the handlebar yoke, zero issues (and we're talking 20-30 year old bikes) to me that's the place for it, but it's your bike, put it where you think best

I liked it. Though it did make walking away from it with the keys in it Way easy. Once I learned to Not use the kill switch, I stopped doing that.

The location of the ignition switch doesn't bother me at all.

I did have to move the switch a bit on the Cafe' bike to get it out of the side panels. I was able to move it up under the tank by just rerouting the wires, and I made a bracket that bolts to the bottom side of the fuel tank bolts....which I converted to studs with nuts on the top and bottom (instead of bolts). This does put the switch in front of your leg, and turning "ON" the petcock and ignition can be done at the same time.....and they also can be turned "OFF" as easily when the ride is over (and the fuel enrichment knob on the carb is accessible in the same location).

Someday I will be old......But not today!
