Tell me what you guys think.

Make a calibrated bent wire to measure the extension of the adjuster.

You can hook the tensioner guide thru the oil port and with marks will be able to get a reading on the position of the plunger.

1st try looks promising.

I didn't have any music wire, maybe 1/8" or 3/16"

for this try I had some 1/8" brass wire handy.

all 90° bends

1st bend 3/4" long
2nd bend 3" but I think 2.5" will work better
3rd bend 1"
4th bend 4"
then cut off a 1" length

you should end up with long skinny S that'll sit flat on a table.

that's the backside of the tensioner guide
there's no chain in that pic to protect the innocent. Wink

I thought of using a bore scope until I found out what they cost. I'm not sure how you actually measure the extension but it looks like a terrific way to save quite a bit of work.

With casting tolerances there is nothing to measure from reliably.
One person maybe on the flat part of the guide, another maybe on the rivet.

At this point in time, the best we can do is mark a starting point and measure from there.

Of course, someone that has the cover off can precisely measure the extension of the plunger and mark a reference point on the "diviner" and know how far they have to go.

I'll have to get some more wire and play around with the bends to see what works best. Right now I'm more concerned with a design that's reproducible than ease of use.
