leaking gas cap

Has anyone ever had gas coming up through the keyhole on the gas cap? Is there a fix for this or do you just get a new cap?

I've never put gas in it myself, I've yet to go on a ride. I have rode around my acre yard quite a bit.
My bro in law filled it for me once, but he's been riding for 15yrs so I wouldn't think it was overfull if that is what you're asking?

How bumpy is your yard?

you seal up the gas cap (has vents in it) you gonna have a new problem.
take a sponge and shove it in the fill tube before you put the cap on.
make sure the sponge doesn't melt in gas.

SS scrubbie might be better.

It is pretty bumpy in spots, like idle in 1st, bumpy. I think I understand what is going on here. Everything should be ok once I start riding on the roadways, right?

Off Road motorcycles have far more elaborate vent systems than road bikes.  My motocross and trials bikes had rubber vent tubes that extended more than 4" above the fuel tank. Riding off road really sloshes the fuel around more than riding on the street.

Even leaving the fuel at half a tank isn't going to stop the fuel from bouncing around in the tank....or out the vent.

Pull the cap and have a look.  If it's close to or above the bottom of the tube, pull the fuel line off the carb, poke it in  a gas can, set the petcock to prime, drain it down low..
You're not gonna get stranded.    But gas leaking out is at best a distraction, and nobody needs that.
