Lost my belt.....ARG!
06/29/15 at 16:30:55

I was driving it, pulling out onto the main drag, felt like I kicked her back into neutral, made a beeline to the shoulder.....
Sheared straight across, no real visible wear, looks like it happened gradually  if the threads exposed are any clue....

OK, where do I get a new one, I need it like right now, online. or a shop on the mainland (which are all closed on Mondays) ?????

You'll probably have to order one from an internet retailer.  They are pretty expensive as well, about $300.

I have an extra one......or two.

I have one that has no known history.....looks fine but I know nothing abut it.  $ 25 shipped.

I also have one that came on a 2001 with unkown miles on it.....looks fine as well.....$ 30 shipped.

I just take one of these on the Dragon trips in case anybody breaks one.

Either one of these will get you back on the road until you find a newer one with known history.

I don't know if it matters, but I'd mark the direction of rotation.

Belt is in the mail.....USPS says it will arrive on Thursday.  However I would plan on Friday so you aren't disappointed. (If it does arrive on Thursday you can be pleasantly surprised instead).

It's an awesome site....

People really are wonderful if we put down the headlines and live life in the real.
To further the story, I had not been but minutes on the side of the road broke down when a can stopped. The guy and his wife asked if I needed help....
I had not even assessed what my options were yet, and my cell was about dead. He said for me to wait about 15 minutes for him to drop off his wife at home and to fetch his truck and trailer....
Sure enuff, he came back with his truck and flatbed trailer, even brought tie downs.
We pushed her up and he drove me the rest of the way home. Backed up my driveway and unloaded her  Grin Grin

I thanked him profusely

Not only that but while I waited at least 5 other cars/people stopped to check on me....

Sure,  I live on an island and some things are different, but people helping others and getting the satisfaction of doing a good deed never changes...

Thank you Dave, let me know the $$$$$ and how I get er' to you

I am at work presently and won't get home till after 4

Any tips on putting this guy on?

I guess I need to remove the rear tire, eh?

You don't need to remove the rear tire - but you will need to remove the left shock and the belt covers to get the belt on.

You also have to remove the front pulley cover...and unfortunately the front pulley.  There is not enough room to get the belt off the pulley as the left engine cover is just too close.  This will be a bit of a problem as you don't have the belt on to use the normal method of holding the rear brake or lashing the rear wheel to a post....to hold the pulley from turning when you loosen the nut.  If you have an impact wrench it will be pretty easy to get off....if you still have the old belt wrap it around the pulley and use some big Channel Lock type pliers to keep the pulley from turning while you use the impact.

Once the front pulley is off you can (with the shock removed) place the belt over the rear pulley, and onto the front pulley, then slide the front pulley onto the shaft.
