Chopper Wiring Questions

I have a few questions about the
Chopper Diagram thread
linked in the Tech Forum >
TOC thread
. Since it is a closed thread, I figured I would ask here.
The diagrams show 2 10A fuses. 1 leading to the 3 position headlight switch and 1 leading to the brake light circuit. However the text states that he used a 7A fuse leading to the headlight and a 3A to the tail.
Are these fuses required and if so, which are the correct ones to put inline?

a 60w headlight only uses 5 amps, so a 7 amp fuse is fine.
tail light is a 22w stop and 8w plate lights, 3 amp is fine.
if your lights are different, then you'll need different fuses.

Fuses protect the wires, not the device. When choosing the correct size fuse you need to look at the current draw as well as the gauge of the wire.
