R Wheel bearing removal
04/06/15 at 11:14:24

Darn rear wheel bearings are giving me a little trouble to remove.

I tried to offset the center tube, to be able to get a area to tap on the drum side bearing.  I can't seem to get a hold of it to move it.

Any hints?

Also: the drum side wheelbearing is pretty much flush with the edge of the housing.  Seem right?

Yep.  Go to the hardware store and buy an expanding anchor bolt that fits into the inner axle hole.  Tighten the anchor in place - then put a steel rod in the other side....and drive the bearing out.

(You don't need to do it against a stone wall however).

none out yet,  I want to drive the drum side out first, it has the least distance to go.

expanding "wing" nut (molly) for drywall?  not sure it what wouldn't just fold up.

Maybe I'm envisioning it wrong?

nevermind....got it.   17mm ~ .670    .625 = 5/8.  so 5/8 anchor it is.

Yep....I just came in from the garage and I tried putting a drill bit through the axle hole.  The 11/16" wouldn't go...but the 5/8" did.

picked up a 5/8 sleeve bolt, tightened 'er up, 3 taps, out came the bearing!   total time from package to removed bearing?  1 minute!

Awesome tip!   Thanks Dave

Looking inside the hub between the bearing boss, there is a "centering" boss for the space.  THATS why I couldn't knock the spacer over to expose part of the bearing.   BTW: original bearings are sealed on the outside, not the inside faces.  They save 3 cents there........ Cheesy
