Will not idle
04/05/15 at 12:07:28

Here's the problem. My bike will not idle. It will run as long as I give it throttle but as soon as I let go it dies.

Here's what I did lately. I installed Routy's forward controls. I put in a 155 main jet and a 55 pilot. I have a raptor pet thingy with the vacuum hose closed off. The seal is still good. I have retraced my steps and everything seems fine I just can't get it to idle.

Help please. Riding season is just around the corner.

Have you adjusted the idle speed screw?

Why did you go with such high needles? Im in Ny and my bike runs with a dyna muffler and stock airbox on 52.5 and 152.5 jets. My other bike has a open pod and lightly baffled jardine and requires a 55 pilot and runs good on a 155 main.

Do you have any intake or exhaust mods?

I didn't touch the idle screw. It was idling fine before I took it apart. But, it never hurts to check again. Thanks.

I have a screaming eagle exhaust and stock air box. I went with those based off of other setups on here.

Any change in the Jets, needle height or needle profile will require and adjustment of the a/f screw and the idle. Make these simple adjustments and you'll be good to go.

Got the idle figured out. Thanks all. Now when I am riding it cuts out on me when apply the throttle quickly or when I am going up hill. Still a/f or could the jet be too big? Also it seems like it wants to rev up when I am sitting still.

A run away idle is an indication of a lean condition. Back the a/f screw a further 1/2 turn.

I'll try adjusting the a/f screw again today. Verslagen, where could I possibly have a leak? In the carburetor?

The boot between the carb and the cylinder head. Usually its caused by a pinch or gap that happens while installing the carb. Also, make sure that the hose clamps are tight...not crazy tight...just tight enough that the carb doesn't rotate.

Also, make sure that the top four screws that hold the cover are secure with no tears/gaps in the gasket.

Didn't get a chance to ride tonight as it is raining. I looked at the carb boot and noticed that it had slid off of the carb some. I slid it back up and retightened the clamp. I also adjusted the a/f screw some more. Hopefully this will fix it. Although, it is supposed to rain all week now. That sucks.

Edit***

I checked the plug because I have a Raptor. It is fine.
