Ryca Muffler Adapter

Has anyone used the Ryca Muffler Adapter with the Dyna muffler?

If so, what were the results?

IMO it's way overpriced

A few other folks have used it and posted their results.

It works well....it is costly.

I used a Suz VS 800 rear brake lever. Almost straight, instead of offset. No clearance problems.  Ebay about $20.

Getting the outside return spring back on is a bear because the cam slips in a little.  I'm running 500 miles or so without it, the brake springs provide good release.  I will put it back on when wheel is off for the new tire. Cool  Cool

I used the same brake lever, and after a bit my rear brake was not working as it should....it just wasn't slowing the bike down and felt like there was grease on the shoes as they just weren't doing anything to slow the bike down.  It turned out the return spring that slides over the brake cam shaft was binding between the arm and the brake hub.  I had to take the lever off and grind away a bit of the aluminum hub to provide clearance for the spring.

That is why I left that outside spring off...binding.  The brake cam slides in and out just enough that the spring can not be replaced without having the wheel apart.  Then you can push it out from the inside and position the spring.

Stupid design.  Angry   guess they wanted it tight to protect the O-ring...but water can enter from around the drum anyway.  Probably required by a lawsuit from somebody who never lubed anything.

In any case I'm happy with the Dyna mount, no leaks, no binds.  Smiley

Does the Ryca adapter have 2 different sized ends to fit the header and Dyna correctly (since the Dyna inlet is larger than the header outlet)?

Kris,

I am pretty sure somewhere on Ryca's website they state that it will fit all of the mufflers they sell which are 1 3/4".

I am sure it fits the stock S40 header because they show cutting an inch off of the end of the header to accept the adapter.

You have to cut the header to use their adapter? I was thinking of using it to move my outlet away from the brake arm. I might be changing my mind! I don't want to cut the header!

I hadda shorten the header to get the Supertrapp on. The grinder sent a shower of sparks past the battery vent, it exploded. Don't do that.

Kris,

I think I am going to go to a muffler shop tomorrow morning and see if I can get an adapter made. I too don't want to cut the header.

Somewhere here on the forum I saw posted what some of the guys use for a chrome heat shield to cover the joint and clamps. I cannot remember where I saw it posted, anyone have a clue?

Justin,

I am very cautious around batteries I have heard about too many disasters over the years causing explosions.

The RYCA adapter does have two different sizes, and it fits the header and the DYNA muffler.  On the stock header there is a short piece of inner pipe that sticks out....and that should be cut off....but doesn't absolutely have to be cut off.  If you leave it on the adapter just doesn't slide all the way up to the collar on the header.

If you are going to get something made...here are the dimensions you want.
