Alternative header pipe?
03/22/15 at 12:53:44

Hi guys,

Been a member for a while and have just been quietly reading all the great tips and advise. I've done the raptor petcock change and as I work in machine shop did my own slot and dowel pin cam chain tensioner mod.

Anyway! My question... Is there any other header pipes that fit a savage? Mine is home made out of mild steel, Full of holes and welds that look like chewing gum. I didn't realise until I went to replace the exhaust wrap and the headers I've seen on eBay are real expensive and/or in the US so postage to England would suck...

Cheers!

Mark

Ugggh, Raask, loud, and hard to jet for, where MPG matters.
I'd stick with muffler shop pipe. You could have it ceramic or chrome.
The trick is ring that seal lands on and the mounting flange presses against.

I don't remember who, but one of the guys who came to the site here had contacted me about a few parts got a header made by this company;

http://www.stainlessheaders.com/customheaders

It looked to be a decent header and it only cost him about $125 I believe.
That was well over a year ago.

Thanks guys!

I've found a couple of places nearby that do fabrication, I'm going to enquire there. Thought if I machined the end part they could just weld it to a piece of stainless tube?

Mr Sandwich, I'd potentially be after something similar myself, (and I'm in the UK). What sort of Internal Diameter were you thinking of? Are we talking 1.5" ID, which is apparently as wide as should go, ideally , in tuning terms. I'd certainly be interested in buying a pipe, can you put a link to the firm you'll use, please? For your pipe, are you getting stainless, or ceramic coated etc?  Thanks

Hi Hovis!
The header I'm looking to replace is similar to the one in the attached pic... but the one currently on my bike is basically made of old pig iron, holes and chewing gum.
Attitude Customs in Southampton might be sorting me out but I'll keep you updated.

Chewing gum works wonders for exhausts! Use Nicorette to help the engine stop smoking  Grin
I look forward to seeing your new pipe when its done.
Cheers, Hovis
