Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has controlled the Senate since 2007, congratulated Republicans on their victory.
"The message from voters is clear: they want us to work together," Reid said. "I look forward to working with Senator McConnell to get things done for the middle class."

Is that an admission he wasn't working together when he held sway?

historically, split governments, where the entire congress is one party and the president is the opposite party, get the most done, split congresses, where the Senate is one party and the House is another party, get the least done.

so now that the President has to actually address the Congress and isn't being protected by his own party, negotiations are more likely to happen

Why Hopey-change got crushed is below. When you see what a damage a truly awful president can do, it's hard to say it doesn't matter whose in office cause it does.

2009: -2.8%; 2010: 2.5%; 2011: 1.8%; 2012: 2.8%; 2013: 1.9%

You preside over that performance, you lose. The 2014 growth uptick arrived too late to save the Democrats. The economy was a spent political force for them.

While I do not completely disagree with you... while I think the populace may attribute the economy to Administration, though I dont wholly share that. The economy was horrible way before 2008, Bush was already giving so much money to Wall Street that the boulder was rolling. Obama inherited that. Did he choose to make things better? or could he? He did not fire the Bush Fed Chair.. he nominated the Fed chair put forth by Wall Street, and the congress approved ( split as they were on everything else).  So Wall Street runs the economy to thier own benefit via thier proxy.. the Fed and the US government.
We can sit and blame this politician or that... the system has been compromised. Mitt Romney would not have done anything different with regards to the Fed.. he could not.. just as Obama cannot.

As long as we bicker about party politics.. those things that those  who really pull the strings want us to.. we can not pull together to reclaim government and re-direct productivity from enriching the few to enriching us all.

But then .. I find it sad.. very sad... to HECK with the economy!!!!! It means sooo little when put against the great SIN that was passed that allows a US citizen to be held forever without charge or trial. yet NO-one from either party .. from the media seems to think that worth event a token glance.
