I was kinda' worried about the fender being able to hold the tour pack and what ever I put in it, until I looked under it and seen the beef-up plate.
It has a double thickness where the bolts mount, and if I get really worried I could put some really wide washers under the bolt heads for a little extra radial stress relief.
I have the valve top plate removed and cleaned up, and will commence to replacing everything tomorrow.
Looking forward to meeting the "savage seniors", um, er.... "savage crew" ?
Is there a secret handshake for this meeting ?

Nice setup you have there Old Rider.
I'm starting to get the idea from all the chatter that ain't none us us spring chickens anymore. Is that the case? I must admit (not that I like to) that I am closer to 60 than to 50. So we need to enjoy while we can.

I'm a sprung chicken.
I once had geese, darn things would chase everyone except me.
They'd go to bite me, I reached down and spun them around and kicked them in the a$$. They soon learned to keep their distance.
took 70 psi to set the ultra marathons

I'm sure you backed it off a tad once you got it set OK..
Reminds of the time I had the rear tire replaced.. and the guy kept pumping air in trying to get an even bead.. I stepped back.. and stepped back.. and.. KERPLOW!!! Blew the tube .. spoke head got it through the rim strip.
"I don't have another tube"..
Well, have a nice trip to the next town to find one..
"It's late"
I rode here on that ... and I am riding it.. or YOURS.. home.
He got another tube..
Last time I went there.

It'll be interesting to see how many miles you get from the ultra marathons. I got around 9K out of my first Shinko 712. And I just replaced it with another shinko 712. Being a relative newbie (aroung 11K total on the bike) I have no idea what is good or bad wear for a tire. i can say that the shinko provides a smooth and stable ride and seems to be pretty grippy.

I'm still only a midzoid leaning toward higherzoid in may.
Got it all back together today, letting the sealant set (24hrs) and tomorrow I will start it up and see if I forgot that "O" ring... couldn't remember if I put it back on the top plate or not, and didn't see it on the bench or floor... LOL
After the run, I will put the chrome covers back on and clean it up a little and take it out for a long ride, have to do it tomorrow cause' the wife has carpel tunnel surgery Friday, and i'll be her right hand for a couple of days.
