I don't have the fancy feelers either. Just put the .004" in the gap , finger tight the adjuster on-to it (lightly) , and tighten the lock nut.
Then check to see if the .002" or .003" will pass through the gap. If not repeat the first part with the .005" or .006" --- then see if the smaller ones will pass.
Finding TDC may be the hard part.
a flash light might help too.
The Aluminum head will grow when it get warm more-so than the steel rocker-arms , so aiming for the tight side a little cuts down on the rattle noise.
Finding TDC was easy, just gotta have the cycles memorized and apply that, though finding the index marks wasn't so easy, and I sure coulda used more light in there
I tried to bend my .004 and snapped it off, so went with the .003 and made drag pretty light, then tightened the locknuts
the exhaust I didn't even try to get the feeler in there, just re tightened the locknuts
I honestly couldn't get a feeler under the adjusters without backing them out, and I'm not totally sure I didn't leave them a bit loose
I am def getting the fancy bent feelers, though I may not be able to do so before the ride
the part about the clearance getting larger as the bike heats up is actually a relief, I thought it was be the other way around
I'd rather loose than tight, tight can lead to dammage
