Looks to be right off of I-10, might be noisy...
and the total for one night is $31.92

This one is 599 miles ... I'll check the other one  Smiley

Here is a question that probably need an answer :     Huh     Why are we looking at $32.50 Dollar camping sites when I've already found a $10.oo one ?   Roll Eyes

from what I can see, the noise can't be "excessive or unusual".  There are not decibel numbers associated with that statement, so it is pretty much unenforceable.  If you get pulled for something else, and give the trooper grief, he might cite you for that as well.

547.604 (a) A motor vehicle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working condition that continually operates to prevent excessive or unusual noise.

Lots of loud bikes around, haven't heard of anybody given grief over them.  Except when I insist on either being ahead of them or way behind them in a group if it is REALLY LOUD..

Verslagen,

I have a friend with a SuperTrapp exhaust from a DR650 on his savage. He's never had a problem, that I've been aware of.

Hell we have tons of Hiurleys running drag pipes, I never see them pulled over   Grin

On a related note, I discovered yesterday that the Spitfire screen on my XS will bolt onto my S40
I still want a taller shield for highway riding,(by my measurement a 22" would be about perfect) but at 75 I didn't feel like the hand of god was truing to push me off the bike, so I guess I'm not restricted to 65 after all, tho the bike is still happier there than 75 - 80, even if I don't get money for a screen between now and then (come on tax return Grin)

Art I'm not sure my S-40 will do 80 ? Huh

If I go as fast as I want it's only 75 ish and that's on the interstate .

I'm good with 70 when I've got somewhere to go and a time to be there !  Wink    (about 1/2 throttle)

Smiley

Old rider maybe I should call about the $10.oo site to be sure ... to late today but I'll get on it .  Cool

on flat road with no headwind, with saddlebags but no windshield, I got mine up to 90
Yesterday I think I got 80 on a slight upslope
You have a bigger windshield than a spitfire I think though
I am torn between the stock 'zuke shield, (15" just like the spitfire) which I know will fit properly without fiddling, or the Dakota 3.0 tall (20.5 inch) which uses a similar mounting system (fork bracket)
I am not a fan of the system used by Slipstreamer, which required a lot of fiddling, and still isn't really right
The factory shield, interestingly, is less costly
I'n still happier with 60-65, but now it's not such a big deal to pick it up a bit

I've got a 19" Memphis slim on the S-40 and a 17" Memphis slim on the Sportster , they are the same fork mounting system.    So both bikes can trade shields at any time (2 minutes or so).   Works out good !  Smiley

If the weather is nice I'll bring the shorter one to Texas .   But if rain or cool weather is in the forecast that extra 2" is a good thing.   I've got a really big HD shield I call my winter shield but I hardly ever use it because the mounting holes are not the same spacing as the Memphis spacing (on the forks).   I did add a 4" extension  to the Sportster forks , thats why Its OK with the shorter shield .  The extension also brought the foot pegs up-off-the-ground a bit, its a long way down to drag the pegs now.

I believe the Jet in the S-40 are 45/150 now , and 80 mph is all the power its got.   At one time I had 52.5/160 jetting w/cone filter - and it ran a lot stronger but only got about 42-45 mpg.    70 mph is fast enough anyway and the mid 50's for fuel mileage make me smile  Cheesy.

Here are my plans as of now.

04/17 Friday - Taking day off from work
Intercept any given person or group on their way in and ride to the campground.  Maybe hit some back roads.  Let me know if you or your group wants to meet up.
OR, I could just go to the campground, rub palms and tell lies until too close to deer o'clock for safety.
Head home.

04/18 Saturday
Head out early to designated meet point for full day of bounding around the Texas Hill country.  I will provide directions to the meet point.  Probably Bandera.
Stay that night in Kerrville.  Might just stay at a motel if no room at the inn.

04/19 Sunday
More bounding around.  Motorcycle Museum at Vanderpool. Do the Twisted Sisters.  Selected souls may elect to do the Dirty Sister (I probably will)
Head home.. or may spend another night in Kerrville.  TBD

04/20 Monday - Taking day off from work
Head out early and meet somewhere.  Once again, a fun route to that point will be provided.
More bounding around.
Say goodbye, Head home.

I plan to look over the routes and timing between now and April.  If you would like, take a look at Google maps, and let me know if you see any roads that you would like included.  More than happy to work them in (if they are really better than what I come up with  Wink )

If there are other activities in the area that you want to do, please let me know.  I will do my best to make this a trip that you will enjoy!!  Cheesy

I'm leaning toward the National Cycle 3.0 tall, 20.5 inches, should be a good setup
I rode to Katy and back today (60+miles all freewat) and was fine with 50, 65, 70, 75, even 80 for a bit
most enjoyable freeway trip I've had on the S40

there's a 'dirty sister'? for a guy who grew upo riding in Texas, I sure am uninformed  Grin
I myself tend to be a follower rather than a leader, so I'm glad youzguyz isn taking a proactive role in this
I am stoked!

The "Dirty Sister" is my phrase for the road that runs between 335 and 336.
https://goo.gl/maps/inZgZ
Really nice paved roads on each end.. and 8 miles of some pretty rough stuff, water crossings, etc in the middle.
I just don't like riding across the top on 41.. boring.
