Found the:

KOA in Lafayette....
Lafayette KOA
537 Apollo Road
Scott, LA 70583
Reserve: 800-562-0809
Info: 337-235-2739

Looks to be right off of I-10, might be noisy...
and the total for one night is $31.92

https://koa.com/campgrounds/lafayette/site-type/tent-camping-sites/

I am finding most of the campgrounds are RV and cabins.... hardly any are tent camping, even the baton rouge KOA does not allow tents.

Also found:

Pioneer Campground
296 Degeyter Rd,
Breaux Bridge, LA 70517

http://rvparklouisiana.com/

Again, right off of I-10, but has "Primitive Camping"... and the slide show shows a tent...
Might be worth a look see.... it looks to be about 30-40 minutes past Baton Rouge.....

If we stay overnight between Baton Rouge and Lafayette.... Columbus will be a little shy of our midway mark. Smiley

Small world! I grew up in Killeen! Well, my teenaged years... Army brat, of course! You're making me miss the old girl but you're right... the best thing about Killeen is getting out of town. But it's soooo close to so much!

I hope this works.

A map is of the park is here:  You can zoom in with your browser.
http://kerrville.org/DocumentCenter/View/23415

This is a link to the pictures.
http://www.bikepics.com/members/youzguyz/p5/
Pictures are in the order of High Point, Midway, Riverside

When you click on a picture, there is a description at the bottom of the page. I.E. Photo Info: high point mini cabins

If you click the photo again, you get a HUGE picture.

General observations.

Riverside mini cabins:
Combo firepit/grill.  Restroom isn't too far.  Easy access to highway.  River access.

Midway/Group area min cabins
Firepit and grill.  Restroom very close (for cabin 17).  Highway is not close

High Point mini cabins
Combo firepit/grill.  Restroom.. not close.  Highway is not close

Restrooms are pretty much the same in each area.  2 showers.
Water spigots close to each mini-cabin.

Anything else I can answer while I can remember?  Roll Eyes

Here is a question that probably need an answer :     Huh     Why are we looking at $32.50 Dollar camping sites when I've already found a $10.oo one ?   Roll Eyes

OK, serious question...
are we going to be able to park the bikes in front of the cabin?
or do we have to park in the yellow zones?

You can park right next to the cabins.

Its a two day trip for me to get to South Texas.  Here is a $10.oo/night camp site about 1/2 way for me.  546 miles from home , about 530 more to Kerrville,Tx. (by way of Columbus,Tx. on I-10)

http://freecampsites.net/#!8912&query=sitedetails

Question is :
Anybody want to meet in southern LA. , then go on to Texas the next morning ?

This is just a thought, and that is all it is .....

Verslagen is driving multiple days each way just to get places --- eating up a good chunk of his two week vacation.   Each stop he is making on his journey is about worth 3-4 days worth of interstate driving from his perspective (to get there and then to get back).

Could you guys maybe re-schedule the south Texas trip to be leading into the Tennessee portion of the Dragon trip?   Or shuffle them around some in some other sensible fashion (it is too too cold for the mountains for sure with your original dates) and wind up with some new dates that are end to end so he doesn't waste 3-4 additional days of Verslagen's vacation time just driving back and forth?

This way he wouldn't be killing an unnecessary 3-4 days of his vacation time just going back and forth then back and forth again later.

It's not like any of these things are set firmly in stone yet, although shortly they will start to solidify (when reservations are made and vacation time is reserved).

Think of Verslagen's journey as a dotted line with 3 major stopping dots on it.    South Texas, Lynchburg Tennessee, Blue Ridge Dragon area.

Consider mebbe planning it that way ..... cut the man a break.   And please pick some times when it is tolerably warm at all 3 dots.

Remember, you don't have to plan to go to all the dots -- just plan to pass Verslagen off like a baton as he drives across the country.
