Shocked

I think I am going to take my 10mm, 12mm, 13mm and 14mm wrenches and go over my bolts & nuts again .....

Nuts weren't loose.. look closer.   The carnivorous cattle guards got him.

I am thinking about leaving after work on Wednesday....and officially arriving early Thursday morning (although I may be sleeping in my trailer in the parking lot when Thursday arrives).  I am however flexible that week.....and I could slide the arrival day back a day or two and stay longer if the weather forecast is better.  I really want to bring the Cafe' bike this trip......and it is really a horrible thing to ride in the rain.  The front tire splits the water on the pavement and throws a spray of water on both of my feet, and and also throws a stream of water straight up into the air ahead of me so I can then ride through it.....and the rear tire throws water on my back and neck.  I really like riding when it is not raining!

So, if I took an extra day off I could arrive Thursday sometimes in the early afternoon (sleep time and travel time allowed in the estimate I guess).

Anyone else interested in a day earlier at Blue Ridge?

WE ARE STILL TOO FAR OUT FOR ANY FORM OF WEATHER ACCURACY .... it is all just noise right now.

We've been through this before so you will get a 10 day out cancellation warning in case of fairly well predicted bad weather (in time to get your money back on a cabin reservation).   If you are tenting, you will get cold at night and a bit dew wet each morning -- count on it.   So bring a bag and a blanket or two.

..... and count on it, you will meet up with a rain cloud at least once during the trip.   Stop and eat lunch or dinner, the road will be drying by the time you are done.

Or ride on and get soaked, we have done it both ways.   (you dry out in an hour or so anyway)

OK, Dave has broached the idea of starting the festivities on Thursday the 11th.  Let's discuss it some and see what everybody thinks.   MM will be staging his troops at his house and may have plans for them, but that doesn't mean Dave and I can't run around some before the rest of the guys get there.

Here is a pic of Rex.   Rex ran like a top until the machined top carb mount developed a stress crack and broke.

===============

Here is a pic of Lancer next to his really cherry looking new burgundy & white.   Big Zuk's head is in the front of the shot, he was looking good on the trip and was the one to follow for best lines and best speeds in the turns.

==============

Here is what 104o day temperatures do to bike rear tires -- they simply rub the soft rubber compounds off and jest evaporate the tread depth.

Rotors turned blue and the riders wilt and dehydrate.   This tire had half of its thread depth when I arrived at the Dragon and I left a day early because of the heat and total lack of traction (I was spinning the tire when heeled over exiting a sharp turn).  Rode the final part of the trip home starting EARLY Saturday (early 2:00 AM dark and cool) to nurse the tire home as it got better traction when cold and I think it wore a good bit less on the cool night pavement.

WE ARE STILL TOO FAR OUT FOR ANY FORM OF WEATHER ACCURACY .... it is all still just "approximations" right now.   But from here in the larger weather systems will be tracked so you will see the 2-3 days of ugly weather if you got a system coming through.    Click on the day to see the rain amounts predicted -- anything less than 1/2" isn't serious, over that 1/2" or more is a rain out day fer shure.

Also realize we range far and wide, and this forecast is only for the campground area.

We've all been through this before so you will get you an accurate 10 day out cancellation warning in case of fairly well predicted bad weather (in time to get your money back on a cabin reservation).   If you are tenting, you will get cold at night and a bit dew wet each morning -- count on it.   So bring a bag and a blanket or two.

Bring a face mask helmet or goggles -- them rain drops hurt hitting your eyeballs.

If'n you squirt some of that Lidocaine gel stuff in your eyeballs,
and get them good and numb,
you won't feel anything at all !

I'd like to put my name down as a MAYBE for at least a portion of the trip. I am perfectly content to sleep in a tent or my truck. I know y'all need a head count so count me in. I'll know for sure if and when I'll be coming hopefully around the end of this month. I still have a bit of tinkering to do on my ride, but I hope I can make the trip and meet all the men and women behind the screens that helped me get back on two wheels. Sorry for the late notice, life gets busy sometimes.
