Interesting article. Are they just trying to sell their brand? There are no standards in the U.S. and, according to this article, we rely on the manufacturers "say-so" as to how safe their armor really is. No proof required!

If you wear any type of armor, verify it is what it says it is.

Making tests to make sure their armor, tests the best...

If it covers a joint, or bone area, it should be fine.... heck I bought a light weight net jacket (Chinese made) with hard plastic and pads for cheap on ebay.
I'm happy with it, I wear it when I expect to be riding aggressively, IF I expect to ride aggressively...
I don't always wear body armor.....

I will probably buy a XX2 one to put over my leather jacket this winter....

I don't wear much "armor"... (really just foam and plastic pads)...
I wear heavy leather when weather permits...

If you do get armor,... make sure it fits tight... because if yer' elbow pad rotates around in crash it becomes a lever against your elbow...

Racers wear heavy leather with armor, and most have them custom tailored to grip like a glove...with all the pads sewn securely in place...

JMHO... the armor in cheap textile jackets is nothing compared to a real racing suit...
.. no telling if it really helps or hinders...
FF helmet,. heavy leather jacket, on the other hand, are tried and tested...

Try one on,.. and have a friend try to twist the pads around while you are in it... If he can move them, you can bet they'll move when you crash...

Again, it comes down to what YOU want to wear.

All the protection in world won't protect you in a crash with a two ton vehicle on top of you...

We ride motorcycles, any crash over 40 mph is going to cause major damage.... depends on the variables of each individual crash.

Armor will protect you, better armor, better protection.... in a roll, slide or tumble. If you collide with an object... something is going to give, if your armor doesn't, your bones and body will.

Jus' sayin'

To each his own, i'll be quiet now....most protection posts end up in clashes of one style vrs the other...

I'm searching for a quality hi-vis yellow jacket with reflective stuff and body armor. It's hard to find stuff around here that isn't all black "Harley bad-ass" stuff. I want something that will cover my lower back too once I'm leaning over the bike. Joe Rocket makes one that fits but very little reflective/ vis on it. I guess I have all winter to look, huh?

I have this coat and I have been very pleased. Well constructed, very warm, the liner unzips, and has many vents for warm weather.

I like that one. It's for sale at the same place I can check out a Rev'it jacket I saw. Going to check out the ICON sanctuary http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/icon-sanctuary-jacket and the Fieldsheer Shadow http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/fieldsheer-shadow-hi-vis-jacket.
As with riding, I'm taking my time, weighing options then making a decision. Any other thoughts are appreciated!

Some of the "Joe Rocket" jackets that have liners and removable pads have seams that are reflective. (I have one, old one,pads are worn).
I purchased a vest that is very high vis (had to have one to get on military base) for about $50, most motorcycle places sell them.

When hot, just wear it. When cold, it goes over a Leather Jacket. The logo is known by everybody driving, (from Minn), trouble is, They don't think you are moving ! (M-Dot) = Minn Department of Transportation.
