I would try the clear fuel line trick to check the float level, and confirm that it is not too high when the engine is running.  This photo shows the level of my fuel when I had the float within the factory specs. (Weird looking thing behind the carb is the reflection of the carb in the chrome battery box).

And then I would pull the enrichment plunger out to make sure that it is seating properly and not got something stuck inside it.

How many tanks of gas have you gone through since the problems started occurring? Have they all been from the same station?  Maybe you found some REALLY watered down gas.  I've had a couple of tanks like that, but never quite as severe as your case.  I'd consider draining the tank and refilling from a different station.  Just my $0.02.

I took the sporty muf off and it rattled.
looked down the business end and all's well, even the baffle was there.
but down the throat and the perforated tube is blown out.
so I'd guess the missing piece is blocking the outlet portion of the baffle.

I am not a carb guru, but,IMO,rejetting is only appropriate after air flow rate or home elevation changes.

so... look for a potato in my tailpipe?

Well, no,,not a potato,not a gerbil,
Glad you found it.
