hi, my exhaust has given up on me, the outer pipe has become detached from the inner pipe at the top of the header ( rusted through ) I'm pretty sure its too far gone to weld. I'm going to ask some questions now and they will probably be pretty stupid, 1) What purpose does the outer tube serve? 2) can I take a silencer from the inner pipe? 3) I'm thinking of maybe having a high rise sporty type pipe is this feasible? 4) is there any other bike pipe I can use with the same bore or is it a new savage pipe with the inner and outer tube?, many thanks

1it's pretty
2there isn't a silencer in the header, but why would you want to bother with a rusty old pipe?

Seeing as you are in the UK, and shipping cross pond would cost you a house payment,... I would look for a local muffler shop that feels like a challenge...
Have them weld you up a new one going any shape you like... (single wall)...
..(the outer pipe also gives some heat shielding protection)... but you can fashion up heat shields in needed places and clamp them in place with hose clamps...
If I were in soggy England,.. I'd have one made with stainless steel...

Yeah looking at the rust bucket that used to be my exhaust stainless is where I'm heading, if it was single skin would it need to be the size of the inner pipe or outer pipe

Inner,...
Or.....inner plus a little bit. No bigger than 1.5" diameter, or it will not run as well.

Take note of the ring facing into the pipe. It's there to control reflected pulses. How important it is I don't know.
