Hello again,

So, I installed a cheap JPCycles, shorty, slashcut muffler that is obnoxiously loud. I had the baffle professionally re-packed and the carb re-jetted and bike runs great with no backfiring which amazed me. A few days ago I put in a K&N filter in the stock airbox. Now I am getting some mild/sporadic backfires when decelerating. Decided I needed to work up the courage to drill a hole in my carburetor. Before I drill, I wanted to check with the experts because I believe one of the former owners may have already performed this mod. Please see the PhonePhoto below. I think what I am seeing is the head of a brass, standard screw and not the plug.

Now I'll read up on which way to turn it.

I am definitely new to being a motorcycle mechanic, if turning one screw counts as a mechanic.

I checked and my screw was five turns out from closed. I set it to three turns out. It cranked right up and I just drove it around the yard and revved the engine a bit. No noticeable backfires. I'll give it a run tomorrow and see how it is working.

Thanks for the suggestion no the fingernail polish...it did seem to turn very easily on mine as well.
