You gotta know they are using the data from your loyalty card at the grocery store.. y really expect me to believe that they had to get the software and gather your information, name, address, phone, etc, etc.
Just to be able to give you a discount? Just wait, they'll be able to see when a person is not following the doctor's orders and use it against them.

Nice find. Its a pretty shallow article, seems to do well at not leaning left or right, nor pro or anti "big brother".

JOG -
The loyalty cards at supermarkets are used to give the retailers info on shopping habits.  Are you saying that they are giving this data to the gov't for some nefarious reason?
We have a large grocery chain here in Ohio that for years had gone along with the typical strategy of being open 24/7.
About a year ago, they decided to close from midnight to 6 AM.  The computer data generated by being able to track customers' habits, and what was purchased during various segments of the day led to this decision.
The chain found out that those who shop during the wee hours typically did not buy much.  A gallon of milk, a pack of cigs, a six pack of beer where the usual purchases after midnight.  Yes, a very few folks did a major shopping, but not enough to justify the costs of keeping the store open for that 6 hour period.
So, now they use that time to clean the store, stock shelves, and do other housekeeping chores that can be done far more cost effectively when the store is empty of customers, and work can proceed faster.
I don't know how true it is, but they claim that a recent 3% cut in prices across the board for most food items was made possible by having the data that enabled them to save money by analyzing shopping habits and patterns, and close for those 6 hours every night.

Jerry,

I'm sure you are right, that grocery stores, or any other retailers don't intend to use that info for nefarious purposes. On the other hand it's been demonstrated time and time again that the security measures in the retail sector especially, are pretty poor. If hackers can get into those systems, and they do, I'm pretty sure that if our government wanted into those servers for some reason, they could do it in a heartbeat. Get crosswise of the powers that be for some reason and they will use your shoppers club card as just another tool to track your activities. They won't even have to hack into anything. All they have to do is ask and the stores in most instances will just hand the info over: you'll never even know about it.

“Marketing”,    And collection of data, has been used for a long time.

When I owned a Gun Shop,  Collecting the ‘Data’, comprised of a pen and a piece of paper.
It was used to determine, Who liked Colts, S&W’s, S/A’s, D/A’s, Revolvers, Semi-Autos,
Handguns, Rifles, Etc. Etc. Etc.

NOW, it is used, for Nefarious reasons.
To accept or deny you, based on this or that.

To determine if you are a,
‘Boot Licker’, or a  ‘Stand Up’ person.

And if the current POTUS get’s his way,
to determine, if you, “Just Disappear”, or are allowed a voice.

And  NOW,  EVERYONE, has access to it !
To do with it, WHATEVER, they want !
