I did have an account and had great difficulty closing it. I get by very well with ordinary email and membership of two or three vehicle related forums, including this one.

I got off FB two years ago (after about a year on) when I was trying to clean up my page by deleting old posts. Pretty soon, FB wouldn't let me see any old posts, which was FB's way of preventing me from deleting my own posts. But everybody else could still see them from their account.

I, the author of my posts, cannot see my posts, but everybody else can. Really? Bye-bye!

P.S. I deleted all friends manually, so as not to be tempted to get back on, before inactivating my account.
