oil usage question.

1986
17080.00 miles
Stock except for petcock and carb plug.

Here is my break down. A buddy and I just rode together for 348 miles. He said he witnessed 0 smoke 100% of the time. He was behind me 90% of that time.

My speedo is accurate up to 40mph then at 50 it off by 2 and at 55 on the speedo I'm doing 59.

Most of my riding was mountains like sky line drive or twisty valleys with engine breaking and downshifting aplenty... averages were 45mph. Today we did a 120 mile stretch at 60mph to get home. While finding level ground at gas stations was tough I did check the oil every fill...looked OK until the last day...I fill the oil upright until there is a little bubble of air in the top of the sight glass...this passes a hot test for my bike. Rotella T dino is in her. After that ride the oil was down in the middle between the two lines...

On my oil in the sump at the time I rode. I got 515 miles...and added 12oz of cold oil to what was left of the warm(not hot oil).

My last full oil change was at 15900 and some was added here and there...

Reasonable?

Seems good enough... a little oil usage is normal during highway use...
Check at fill-ups...

I don't think mine would burn much at 60mph... more like 70+mph...
...but,.. different bikes are different...
I wouldn't be too worried if I were you... Wink...

I wonder if'in its attributes to blow by because of revs when I shift or engine break?

First to second at 15
Second to third at 25ish
Third to forth at 45

Not too many hard accelerations
