It also guarantees me a new part(since my bike is in new condition - 2997 miles). I hated to do it - especially from what I saw in the aftermarket products I'm just too lazy right now to mess with any mods
I'm all for supporting local business, but these are cheap plastic turn signals. That's why they break so easily... I've had to replace three already. The first I ordered online for $75, and the others I found on eBay, my last one I was lucky enough to get for $15. I went to a local custom shop and that's where I found the K&S version, and the owner said that those were probably produced in the same factory just with a different brand in the packaging. Currently I'm looking at mini bullet style lights so they'd mount flush up against the chrome mounting bar. Originally I thought that doing this would require a lot more work than it really does. If you go to your local hardware store you can find spacers that fit perfectly in where our lights mount, and just make sure it has a hole that accommodates an m8 bolt. The trail lights have a hollow bolt they run the wires through so you literally just put the spacer in, put the turn signal through, and just secure it with a nut on the inside of the fender. Then all you have to do is connect 2 wires and your done. Unlike our cheap plastic signals these are almost always made from metal, and can be purchased in packs of 4, 2, or individually. I've found ones exactly like ours but they don't extend out for a full set they're $80 so if you ever need to replace one is just $20, and with the smallest amount of searching you can find other very good and similar looking ones like ours for half that. I'm not doing that until my next light breaks, or until someone offers to buy my whole set. I do already have all the spacers I need and I tap threaded them for an m8 bolt, took me all of 5 minutes...
Well I hope you don't break a light any time soon, but if you do I'd really consider going that route.
