Changed the rear fender and now it will not charge
03/06/14 at 00:55:19

I bought my Suzuki Savage 94' a few weeks ago. Everything was working as it should. Then I changed the rear fender(to one from bluecollarbobbers) and now it will not charge. I bought a new battery but still no luck. I also changed to a side mounted brake light which I can't seem to get right. To me it looks like it's always on brakelight-mode. Does anyone have a clue what I might have done wrong?

More then likely you rewired something incorrectly and are grounding out.  Go back over your wiring especially for the brake light since you said it's not functioning properly and make sure it is correct.  Did you relocate the rectifier too?

I haven't relocated the rectifier. What is the purpose of the rectifier? Can this be the solution to both of my problems?

You need the rectifier to charge, I suggest you find it and report it's location.

You wired in a new brake light?  Does the running light come on when you step on the brake?

The rectifier converts the AC coming from the engine into DC to be useable with the lights and battery.  It also has voltage regulation to make sure the battery doesn't overcharge.

About all you can do with the brake light is wire the two filaments wrong so that the bright one is on for the tail light and the dim one lights when you hit the brake. You said it seems to be brake light all the time. It could be simple as having the wires backwards.

I see. I will find a new spot for the rectifier. Yes, I wired in a new brakelight. The brakelight is constantly on, and nothing changes when I pull the brake.

You should have received a DVD from BCB that shows you how to mount the rectifier to the battery box.
