I use Kendall Liquid Titanium GT-1 High Performance 20W-50.....it already has the zinc in it.

This is a conventional (Non-Synthetic) motor oil

I use this for breaking in new or rebuilt engines

Buy it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Kendall-1057267-Performance-20W-50-Titanium/dp/B004RNSO2M

http://pitstopusa.com/c-135752-oil-fluids-paint-motor-oil-kendall-motor-oil-k...

http://www.industrial-oil.net/kegthipemooi.html

http://www.phillips66lubricants.com/documents/conoco/industrial_oils/Ken%20GT...

After your engine is properly broken in you can use any one of these synthetic motor oils.....be aware some may not have zinc in them

Buy the synthetic oils here:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-ke...

Buy the Synthetic with the zinc already in it here:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-ke...

Buy the zinc additive here:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-...

AND Finally, here is a link to Hy-Per Lube Oil additive....great stuff--it
works!!

HAPPY MOTORING !! Smiley

ho hum .....   are we being invited to do an oil war again?

I see lots of unsubstantiated stuff, not a single VOA in the lot -- just some oil vendor advertising (off of AMAZON no less).

This is interesting ... "After your engine is properly broken in you can use any one of these synthetic motor oils.....be aware some may not have zinc in them"

Does he not know that lots of ZDDP is specifically needed during the break in period to keep the cam lobes and the flat tappets from starting the cam tip area mini-pitting and spaulling?   That break in jell is just about pure ZDDP additive?

Why would you STOP using ZDDP after the break in period is over?

Why would you want to use a 20w-50 synthetic oil which would be over recommended weight in the winter time (synthetics do not thin out when hot like the dino oils do).

Where do we do these oil wars now?   Cafe?

How blunt can we be over in Cafe?   Blunter than we are in RSD?

Feel free to move this to Cafe if that is where Oil Wars are supposed to go.

BITOG is aware of this new Titanium stuff from Conoco Phillips Oil company (the folks who just bought the Kendal oil name).

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/1850626/3

NOTE PLEASE, this is not the 20w-50 oil it is 5w-30 car oil -- can't find a 20w50 VOA yet

And if Ken2 on BITOG is correct, the  Afton Chemical's Liquid Titanium is akin to Moly as a slippery stuff type additive.

Quote from Ken2

"Kendall oil used to be something special, or at least some people thought it was.

Since it was bought out by ConocoPhillips, Kendall oil is exactly the same as their Conoco, Phillips, and 76 branded oils. Nothing wrong with the oils and nothing really special, either. Good stuff, and I'd use it unless I wanted a clearly superior oil like Red Line, Pennz Ultra, Schaeffer, Amz, etc.

The Liquid Titanium is good. Afton Chemical's Liquid Titanium plus ZDDP is actually a lower cost alternative to moly plus ZDDP with about the same benefits. I've read the patent paperwork, and that is what it's for and why they use it. ZDDP as an antiwear agent is very hard and good at preventing wear, but is high friction. ZDDP plus moly or Liquid Titanium is very anti-wear plus low friction."

Tongue

So far Kendall Liquid Titanium GT-1 High Performance Oil seems to be just another low ZDDP  SL-SM grade car oil ....   not suitable for the Savage for the low ZDDP numbers that are provided .... and not suitable for the addition of low friction modifiers which may affect wet clutch performance over time.

We will keep an eye out for any 20w50 VOAs -- the Harley Guys will do a few sooner or later as that is what the 20W50 oils are generally intended for.
