Painful and funny..

During the 3-1/2 years of World War 2 that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, the U.S. produced 22 aircraft carriers, 8 battleships, 48 cruisers, 349 destroyers, 420 destroyer escorts, 203 submarines, 34 million tons of merchant ships, 100,000 fighter aircraft, 98,000 bombers, 24,000 transport aircraft, 58,000 training aircraft, 93,000 tanks, 257,000 artillery pieces, 105,000 mortars, 3,000,000 machine guns, and 2,500,000 military trucks.
We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services, invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle for the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany.

It's worth noting, that during almost exactly the same amount of time, the Obama administration couldn't build a functioning web site.

OHH How the truth does hurt..

JOG -
I was born in 1947 ,and while growing up in the 1950s and early 1960s, I was constantly exposed to WW II veterans.
I surely can't do justice to a real discussion of the times of WW II.  It was a time in our history that was never seen before, and will not be seen after.
From what I've read, and heard, the people of the U.S. were totally united in the goal of defeating the Axis.  Political differences took a second, or third seat during the war.  I think that was a product of two things - first, even though we tried to remain neutral early in the war, it was obvious that what was going on in Europe was a war of good versus evil.
Next, of course, was our being attacked at Pearl Harbor.  The circumstances of a sneak attack while the Japanese diplomats in Washington were supposedly negotiating with our gov't to avoid war made the attack all the more insulting.
As the war progressed, especially early in the Pacific, events like the Bataan death march galvanized Americans' determination.
Today, if such events happened again, we'd never be so united.
There would be conspiracy nuts who would somehow make Pearl Harbor into an inside job.
There would be political divisiveness against whomever the President would happen to be at the time.
We are just a different country now - too diverse, never "country first" like we once were, too much concerned with individual matters rather than nationalist goals.
As I said, I can never do justice to the subject, but that's a minor start.

One need not be a "conspiracy nut" to evaluate the evidence that there is a possibility there was a desire to join in the war & make allowing the attack easy. There ARE questions. Is it cut & dried either way? Nope.. just one more of those things I wish I REALLY KNEW the answer to.. I DO know this,, the president fired a coupla admirals who wouldnt position the ships HIS way prior to the attack,,
As for How WWII was supported, Much different times,, Americans havent been asked to GIVE the way they were then,, This nation was united in the effort. People were patriotic & supported the war, not Just with their mouths, but with scrap drives, buying bonds, doing w/o things, rationing of necessities,, it was a WAY different time,,

How many wars would the people support now IF they had to go thru it with the soldiers like they did back then? OHHH MY! It would take more than a media blitz to con the dumb masses then,, ( & DO remember to say Dumb Masses quickly enough to run the words together, please)
