Bike wont start
11/06/13 at 05:19:46

Hey all,

I had to take off the gas tank to do some new wiring for my new handlebars.  I put everything back the way it came off, but it seems it wont turn over and start.  The lights are working and all so does that mean the battery is good?  I pulled the choke out.  What else should I do?  It gets to a point where the bikes about to go and all I get is a bunch of stuttering, kinda like when you go to start a car and it won't start up.

Thanks!

We need to work on the use of some descriptions.....so that we are clear what you are describing.

Won't Turn Over - You push the starter button.....but the starter does not spin the engine over.

Won't Fire, Won't Start - The starter turns the engine over....but it does not start and run.

If the starter turns your engine over - but it does not start....charge your battery as the first attempt to fix it.  Our bikes can have enough battery to run the starter - but not enough battery to run the spark circuit.

Ah, gotcha...lesson learned!  Smiley  It wont fire, the starter does turn the engine over to the point where you hear it wanting to start but wont.  I will try charging the battery.  Thanks Dave!

Everyone needs,, by needs I really mean NEEDS a voltmeter. Theyre under $10.00 @ Harbor Freight. KNowing the charge on the battery is important,, just because ya just unhooked the charger doesnt mean its charged,, may have a bad cell.. & ya dont wanna be charging one for 6 hours after its at 12.8 volts, either.. I believe I save much hassle by checking the battery.
