Got a running, street legal 88 Savage with 13,850 miles for $500. I've put 1,000 miles on it in my first 2 months and all I've done was replace the stock petcock with the raptor petcock ($25) and changed the oil.
You can do better that this bike for that kind of money.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Definitely not buying it. I'll just bide my time drooling over the gallery until something good pops up in North Florida.
Cheers

There's definitely a Murphy's Law feeling when looking for one. I felt like all the Savages were for sale the 2 weeks prior to my looking and the area was bone dry when I was ready to buy. But they come up pretty regularly.
If you haven't yet, check out
http://www.searchtempest.com/
.
That's a site that looks through a bunch of Craigslist cities all at once. You might find your dream Savage at the perfect price just 120 miles away. That was the case for me and it was absolutely worth the drive to go get it. If it weren't for searchtempest.com I wouldn't have noticed it because it was outside of my craigslist zone.

This is what $2000.00 got me last month 06 with 4100 miles. Pretty much right on the money KBB value.
This is how it looks right now with 4800 miles on it after I added bags windshield and OEM backrest.
