How do I take it apart? Dremel the retainer ring enough to pry it back? It got full of funk, need to clean the inside of the glass.

Also found out, it had just a touch under 15K miles on it when it was totalled by my stepson. I put between 6 and 7K more on before retiring it in 2011.

WD, as I'm a vintage car person I respect your need for absolute originality in this matter. However I feel you could check the market place section. Jiggyfly and Face may have speedos for sale without the frustration of attempting to disassembly something I don't think Suzuki intend you to disassemble. Then again you may prefer the challenge.

WD....I have one I will give you.  You can choose between the one with the sidestand light and 40,435 miles.....or the 2007 one with 422 miles on it and no side stand warning light.

Cut it apart about 1 this morning, couldn't sleep. Glass is clean, trim ring is polish, just waiting on the spacer ring to dry. Mechanism is cleaned, lubed and free moving. And the cable assembly is soaking in a bucket of hydraulic oil.

Putting it back together will be interesting, but so far, so good.

Congratulations, and if the cable doesn't free up well there should be some of those in the market place.
