Still cannot start the Savage
08/24/13 at 11:09:46

So, I cleaned all the handlebar switches, connections and ground of the starter selenoid. I have charged the battery and put everything back together. When I turn the bike on, and press the start switch i get a click from the decompression controller. Nothing else. Is the decompression controller bad? The decompression valve does not engage or open. How do I test the controller, or if there is a signal to the decompression valve?

I had what sounds like the same problem. In my case, under the seat there is a three wire connector. This connector can become dis-connected and cause the symptom you speak. Check it out. Quick fix. I used a small zip tie to make sure it stays together.

So I tried that and still no starting. So I found a hot wire, smoking hot wire from the rectifier? could that cause it not to start? The hot wire is the black and white wire.

Wiring work done and a "smoking hot wire"  did you check your fuses? If you have a fuse out make sure you find what got wired wrong first  Wink
