If you have had an airbox or oil sump with gasoline in it, list it.

If your shifter linkage has bent or snapped, list it.

Has been ongoing with the model since at least March of 1998, when I first found a Savage forum.

Time Suzuki addresses their bad research and development, and beyond bad quality control department. Before someone gets killed.

I'll start: WD, linkage on 1998 LS650PW snapped in half in traffic, spring 1999, one year of ownership. I know of several others, 20+, off the old forum.

No Fuel into places un-known,, IF I had gas in the air box, it has long ago gone away. Raptored at 20,000 miles, just a few months ago, 2005 model.

Twas runnin crappy..

4500 Fuel in Airbox, changed to Raptor.  No problems since.  4900 Snapped linkage in traffic.  Half ass welded it and it snapped again.  Put a new one on.

2004 LS 650, 4,000 miles, 1 cup fuel in air box, changed to a raptor petcock, fuel problems solved.

Shimmed pilot valve needle and adjusted fuel/air ratio screw to get rid of backfires.

I consider these, a safety issue and poor mechanical practices. Just because "its always been done that way", does not make it right.

Johnny57, if you would be so kind as to go here and fill out the nice little on-line reporting form -- you had you an actionable safety issue with the gasoline in your airbox.

NOTE:  Post on this thread your specific problem.......Not just replacing the petcock because you thought it was a good idea.  If you had a petcock fail and cause gas in the air box, crankcase or floor - or if the petcock caused running or reliability problems.  We are looking for specific problems that can be reported to establish a factual basis for Suzuki to address this problem.

2001 Savage.  Replaced petcock in 2011 at 14k miles.  Issue was fuel starvation in low-vacuum situations during cold weather and at highway speeds above 60mph into headwinds.

I'll jump in here, also. I have a 2012 S40, and at 1049 miles the motor just "conked out". I quickly switched to reserve, no luck. Then coasted to the shoulder, tried to re-start several times. Opened the tank, could see fuel splashing. Switched to PRI, waited a few seconds, started right up. Went home and installed a Yamaha Raptor petcock, and no problems since. Now at 2000+ happy miles and the bike runs better!

I don't mean to cause any trouble, but maybe you should also have people list the cam chain tensioner failures, it seem to me that if that thing fails while your in a turn and locks the motor up someone could end up in a spill.

It is a reasonable enough question and needs answering.  The answer I have right now is that the tensioner inverting and spitting the spring into the gears causes a gear crunch event as the thin spring material gets run through the gears.  

It doesn't stop the engine or break the cases or the gears (so far anyway).  It just makes a hell of a noise, just once.   I am sure it isn't good for the main ball bearings, no sudden load of that nature would be.  

No one has ever gone down over it that I know of -- WD, any info from the previous Bert's List?
