I KNOW there is a thread somewhere about using Progressive Suspension shocks .. the model is 412 ( I am pretty sure) but I for get the length/part nos. (which was given in the thread).

I would like to share my experience changing the rear shocks. There are tons of info available, and it took some time to sort thru it all. My stock 2012 S40 rode like a hardtail - no fun! I changed to Progressive Suspension 412-4201C, bought from JC Cycles. I got the ones for Suzuki Intruder 80, 11.5 inches. Installation is a breeze. I used a scissor jack from my Subaru under the engine to jack up the bike and put a block under the rear tire. To get proper alignment, just raise or lower the jack. The new shocks bolt right on, no mods or belt adjustment needed. The payoff? A much improved ride, -BONUS- the bike handles much better! The S40 would noticeably understeer in fast sweeping curves. The shock mod raised the taillight 2 inches, slightly decreasing the apparent rake angle. Now it takes curves beautifully.

I bought my Progressive shocks from JCMotors. They had the cheapest internet prices I could find and there were no surprises and the order and shopping went smoothly. I did not have time to watch eBay for a deal as I was under a deadline to get the bike done.

Yeah, Dave - you're right. It was JC Motors.com, and I had the same pleasant experience. A real top-notch operation.
