Skip Death Valley.... nothing but hot. Stick your head in a pizza oven.. same experience.

not really,, death valley doesnt smell like pizza & no one sticks one in with you.. pizza oven is a better choice, theres usually beer for sale where pizza ovens are,,

I wouldn't worry about it too much- by then he will have a girl he won't want to leave for a week anyway.

If this were true, I wouldn't be surprised is she insisted on coming, too.
Huh
Which means... who's going to deal with her parents ?
Undecided
I know ! My wife !
Kiss  Cheesy

Anyway... really... I would have to really really conjure something upo in order to see everything and go everywhere etc. ...

We visited the SouthWest in June/July 2008 (Paladin and Verslagen will  remember  Wink ) and my boy was only 10 at the time.
We took a whole lot of pictures, and then some more, and it's nice to look at them from time to time and "gee, remember this place?" and we all heckle on this or that detail.

Sequoia Natn'l Park and Death Valley... and Vegas (we stayed at Circus Circus just off the Strip).

Would we want to go to Vegas again ? Definitely !

Would my son want to go to Vegas ? He doesn't even know how much he would want to go... yet...  Grin

Anyway... crating my own Savage would cost me about $2000 each way...
Renting a bike for a 10thousand mile double Coast-to-Coast would set me back by much more...
Two bikes ?  Shocked

Really... I'm beginning to think a "sell&buy back" contract might be my best option  Cool

EDIT

I was doodling routes on Googlemaps when I came across THIS at these coordinates:
36.329051,-117.716156
Just Copy&paste them in the dialog window in Googlemaps.

Very odd, it's two concentric circles about 300ft. in diameter.
If I didn't know better, I'd say it looks exactly like Stonehenge, only buried in sand and/or made in adobe bricks which weathered away...

Europe is chock full of these, they were open air solar temples used to study and determine excactly when solar and lunar dates fell, eclipses etc.

Of course they HAD to build a road across it...  Roll Eyes

Here's one wacky fig. 8 route... a mere 10260 miles...

... probably need two months to enjoy it all...  Roll Eyes

... or maybe 10 days Iron Butt to get my passport stamped ...  Shocked

Boston, MS
Buffalo, NY
Chicago, IL
St.Louis MO
New Orleans, LO
Houston, TX
Abilene, TX
Carlsbad, NM
Durango, CO
Grand Junction, CO
Moab, UT
Grand Canyon, AZ
Classic Route 66 through Peach Springs and Oatman, AZ  Cheesy
Las Vegas, NV
Death Valley, CA
Los Angeles, CA (R&R Disneyland  Cheesy)
CA Rt. 1 to San Francisco, CA
Yosemite NP to Carson City and Reno, NV
Twin Falls, ID
Yellowstone NP, WY
Devils Tower, WY
Little Big Horn, MT
Mt. Rushmore & Badlands NP, SD
Milwaukee, WI (R&R at HD Museum  Cheesy)
Indianapolis, IN
Nashville, TN
Miami, FL (R&R at the Everglades... Disneyworld Epcot Cape Canaveral etc.)
Charleston, SC
Williamsburg, VA
Washington, D.C.
Philadelphia, PA
New York City, NY
Bosto, MS

Of course, these are NOT the "stopovers", simply the "vectors" or "main destinations".

Still... 10260 miles + roaming, wrong way turnaround and just plain cruising ... make it 11000 miles each.

Whew !

My math for fuel, fuel alone ?
11000 miles at 40mpg x $4.00/gal = $1100 each !
Two bikes = $2200 fuel plus $100 oil plus... room & board !    Lips Sealed

AND SOUVENIERS... now... where do I store those ?  Undecided

I need a backup van...  Grin Grin Grin

Can't tell what this might be for sure, but it's fairly inhospitable.
Not that there aren't native villages all throughout the area.

In Canada the c90 goes for $13k new. It would be perfect for a 2 up Cross country ride. With the costs posted, you would still be ahead even doing this. I'm sure there will be used ones available when you are ready to do this.

True. Inhospitable... today.

Rewind time by some 5-7 thousand years ( 3000 - 5000 BC) and you'll discover climate was overall much cooler than it is today.

In Africa, back in 3000 - 5000 BC the Sahara was a vast, fairly hospitable savanna, with lakes and tall grasses and elephants and giraffes where today all you have is something akin to Utah.

I wouldn't be surprised if the investigated with geologis ultrasound to discover "there's stuff down there".

Everybody knows about Stonehenge

Not everybody knows Stonehenge is bout one of scores and scores of similar sites scattered throughout Europe.

Sweden, the "Solar Ship", 2000 BC

Malta, 3600 - 2500 BC

Cromlech in Marocco ( !!! )

Cromlech in Xerez, Spain

Carnac, France  Shocked

Nuraghe (Nuraxi) in Sardinia

and how it looked like around 2000 BC

_

If it looks too "medieval-esque", well... these are the styles indicated by leading archaeologists...

So... I wouldn't be surprised if someone discovered "there's something them thar yonder!" in Death Valley...
