Posts: 55 Southern ca	changing the savage up a little bit 06/26/13 at 06:45:14 I went from a completely stock savage with a destroyed piston for $300 in CA to this thing I've got in the photo a year later in NY. Now that i've got my ironhead back on the road its time to change up the savage a bit.

I threw on some 12" mini apes, got rid of the left hand side hand controls, new cables and brake line

Posts: 55 Southern ca	Re: changing the savage up a little bit Reply #2 - 06/26/13 at 06:51:11 the pictures arn't that great and i'm a little premature hahaha but the bikes still waiting for my rear brake shoes before I put on the new white wall in the rear and i've got some grinding to do for my $120 home made 21" rim. i'll post up a picture of the finished product at the end of the week

I used a 42" brake cable, fits perfect, almost on the tight side. and made the throttle and clutch cable with the venhill kit for $35 off ebay, deffinitly the way to go to make cables

There are switches on the headlamp housing. I am sure they do some of that stuff. And mine didn't come with a passing lamp from the factory. That must be some newfangled thing the S40s do.

What's a passing lamp? High/low and turn signals on mine are on-off-on toggles, horn will be either a micro-button or an early HD replica part. The switch boxes are hideous... Start button is going in the battery box cover, kill switch deleted (that's what the key is for). I'd just as soon wire it like a 70s Ford truck, key feeds solenoid feed starter, but... tired of trying to figure out the rewiring.

I used on off on switches on the headlight for hi low beam and directionals. I've always thought a horn was point less on a bike. I rarely use my directionals over hand signals cause it grabs the eye better. As for the 21" wheel. I got a cheap 36 hole 21" hoop off ebay. Then I called up bucanon spokes in CA and had them send me stainless steel spokes for a suzuki savage, 21" of course with a 3 cross over. The stock front wire wheel is a 2 cross over. Had my buddy lace and true it, I'm not sure how much that would cost but its the way to go. Ill post the finished product up on Monday. Some other things to consider is the diameter of the holes on the hoop. I took a gamble and it worked out fine. You could even take your hub off the front of the bike or buy a used one off eBay and just mail it to bucanon and get back the finial product. They're awesome at what they do
