New Regulator

okay I have some pictures here of different regulators. the first pic is of my old one that doesn't work anymore. please note that it has three wires coming in from the stator of course, and only two wires going out even though the connector has a spot for one more.
next, is a picture of the side of the one on my bike versy let me borrow. you can't see it from the picture but it has three wires going out. I believe I remember him saying it was off an '87. this regulator works fantastic.

Whats the deal man?¿

Another question arises in my mind. the numbers on the side of my old bad one are SH535c-12 2.9 The side of Versys regulator has a slightly different model number (fine, makes sense).. but its the 7.3 that sparks my curiosity. I'm thinking the 12 is 12volts, and the other number is what? amps?
