Lancer's Super Cam Chain Questions
06/25/13 at 20:27:23
Do y'all remember a few years back when Lancer spearheaded a group buy of special cam chains, made by Morse?
I bought one from a board member here recently and it arrived today.
A few questions:
1. Has anyone been using the Morse cam chain long enough to see if the stretch is lessened in comparison to the OEM chain?
2. I (think I) remember reading that the Lancer cam chain would have the letter "M" embossed on its links. I can see no such letters on mine. Are the Lancer cam chains indeed devoid of any markings?
TIA!

I don't recall any markings on the chain Digger, but it has been many moons, and it would make sense.
Since they were made by Morse it would not surprise me if it may have been there on some of the orders.

I bought mine,.. way back... but, haven't installed it yet...
I'm on the second notch of my Versy tensioner...
Don't know if I'll ever actually need it, but... next time I'm in there, I'll probably install it...
If I can remember,.. I'll look for a "M" tomorrow...
..(If I forget,.. send me a PM, to give me a jumpstart)...

Were there several batches? Did at least one of the later batches not have the "M" on the links?
I'm asking all of these questions because, if, for some reason, I don't end up using the cam chain I just purchased, I'd like to know a few details about it for when I go to sell it.
TIA!

The original 2 lots of super chain were built by Morse's subsidiary located in Japan and it had the Morse markings. The very last on (the third lot) was done by Lancer and Verslagen and I didn't see any of them.
Way back then we were at the cusp of the Chinese cam chain suppliers taking over the market and we intentionally AVOIDED any chance of getting any of those chains.
I don't think you have the luxury of avoiding Chinese cam chain any more, they have run off the Japanese and Morse hasn't built a chain in America since way before when we bought the first two lots.

So in today's day and market, who should I be looking towards for a good quality replacement chain? I'm getting close to that time.

Tsubaki, bulk cam chain. You'll need to get the specs from Lancer, Verslagen or Oldfeller. Hard to find, worth every cent.

Terribly sorry, Digger.... I completely forgot...
I see M's on about 30% of links,... not consistently... (probably stamped on one side of each plate)...
I think this one came from Lancer,.. but can't be 100% sure...
They show faintly in this pic...
Apologies again for forgetting... (you're supposed to kick my Azz to remind me)... I'm like a dumb mule...

I found the file on the cam chain orders burried in a parts box in the barn/shop, so if there is significant interest in trying to get more chains then the feelers can be sent out to see if it is still possible, and at what cost.

I'd be interested in one, but I'd need to know the price before I would commit.
