Can you rotate the handlebar controls?
05/29/13 at 12:28:15

Guys, Can you rotate the right side handle bar controls without causing any issue, in order to bring the brake lever higher? I think I remember someone saying there was a hole in the bar that the controls were positioned in.

If you really Need to & there Is a locator hole that keeps you from putting it where ya want it, then Dremel the hole a little. Otherwise, loosen it up & see if you can do what ya want,,

Yeah I will try it when I get home. I haven't taken it off yet as I was a little worried about messing something up with the throttle cable. Didn't want to loosen the controls up a lot and not be able to put it back together. Was hoping just to loosen it a little and twist it, but it didn't move. I am talking about the s40 drag bars. Not the older style bars.

The levers aren't pinned,.. you can adjust them...
Only the switch and throttle mechs are pinned... Wink...

Well,, if you Need them turned because it is set so that you dont feel like you have the best angle to allow you to use the brake effectively, then its a safety issue & youre gonna have to win that. There is probably a pic someone could offer up that shows how it goes together. I will say this. Any time youre walking into an unknown, prepare the work area. Clean up, sweep up, so anything that falls doesnt have a forest of junk to hide in.
Lay rags down so little things cant "Run"
Cover the tank, so if you fumble a tool you dont mess up the paint,.
Have a container for parts if youre taking that much apart,
If you cant remember exactly how it goes back, you can help yourself by laying things out as it comes apart. Start putting things down on the left & work right. Then you know what goes in next.. maybe not WHERE,,, but at least what..

Thanks guys, Good advice Justin... I can reach the levers fine, but the wife is riding the bike a bit and has some trouble.
I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3_rckOeqsg
shows me exactly where to loosen the lever. I think my bike has caps over the allen head bolts that you loosen, which is why I didn't see them and thought the lever and controls were one unit.
He even plugs this forum in the video, which is nice  Grin

When I changed out my pull back bars a while back, there were no locating pins on anything.  I just rotated them to where I wanted them and tightened.

Your bike is 21 years newer than mine.  Don't be surprised if they've changed something.

Those little plugs in the allen head screws are somewhat stubborn.  Try a small scredriver and gradually work your way around and pry a small amount each time....and wigggle them out.  They need to be coaxed to come out nearly straight, they get stuck if you get them crooked.  When you get the out enough to put pliers on them - either bad them or use some smooth jaw pliers and wiggle and pull.
