A Sad Day
05/26/13 at 12:36:08

Today is the day I sold my first bike, a 2005.  It is the first time in 6 years that I am bikeless.  It was a great first bike, but alas it just didn't fit my 6'3" 314lb body very well.  I will miss my numb ass on longer rides, the shake of the motor, and the pleasing thumping sound.  But more importantly, I would like to say thanks for this great forum that gave me tips, great advice, and good reading.  I told the new owner about this forum and that should he have any questions, this was the place to go.

So long ladies and gentlemen,
Mike

I am looking at a '96 Heritage Softail with 5,800 miles.  It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.  If it is gone before I get to it on Tuesday, I will be looking at a Vulcan 900.

That's true... if you want an overweight, overpriced, overhyped status symbol.  Wink

I'll stick with my Suzi, thanks anyway!  Cool

Let's put it this way: The Savage/S40 is a big single inspired to a big twin.

Especially the early Savages from the 1990's, with drag bars and the 4-speed gearbox, only needed a chain conversion and a Sportster muffler to be mistaken for a Shovelhead Sportster...

...unlike people would take a second look and comment "I didn't know Harley made singles..."

Sitka, i'm in the opposite position you are in.... i'm only 5'8" and weigh a monstrous 145lbs (maybe 150 now) and my monster harley roadglide is now too much for me to lug around and i'm thinking of getting a savage like my wifes.
Good luck on your search for your next steed....and since you know this place, don't be a stranger...i'm sure these wise folks could assist if you have problems on your new ride, or at least give it a shot. I'm finding this forum to be one of the best ones i've ever subscribed to and won't leave it even if I sold the savage.
Its not about "what you ride", its really just "that you ride" and the company of a few good folks to enjoy it with.

Dont't know about that statement? For years when people ask "what is an Ironhead?"  Most would reply: "a shovelhead sportster"..

Just built a 84 1/2 model year for a guy. believe it or not, a few of the
parts are a lil different on that model.."Last of the Ironheads"

There may be people who call a sportster motor a shovel head but in my opinion they do not know what they are talking about. The factory does not refer to that designation for them as well.

Sportsters have cast iron heads. The shovelheads are aluminum.
